![]() ![]() At a first glance Nimbus Notes might look like a great alternative to Evernote but if you use it for some time and try syncing of many notes be prepared for data loss and unstable syncing. you cannot even backup your notes properly (formatting and images are missing from the files in many cases). They offer perfect note importing but export sucks.hard. As u/Altrosmo mentioned: your notes are locked in with Nimbus Note. I switched from Evernote to Nimbus Note about 3 years ago and I have to say I regretted it in the end and switched back to Evernote with lots of effort a few months ago. And your notes will get deleted in a month after your subscription expires. And a heck lot more expensive than Evernote once you've priced Obsidian Sync in. Although those notes will never be shared with others apart from myself, that is enough to be considered Commercial Use. Obsidian is expensive, because I would want to use Obsidian to take meeting notes for personal use. Bus Factor aside, UpNote is currently the best, and cheapest alternative to Evernote. Although there might be a social media helper lurking in his team as well. Īs for UpNote, actually I think UpNote only has ThomasDAO himself. Also, the lead dev/founder used his official NotesNook blog to do a BitWarden rant. ![]() Anyway, just take a look at and tell me you're not worried. The formatting menu overlaps its submenus. The moment I opened it on iOS, the app disabled part of my OS-level notification panel (lol). I discover more bugs in NotesNook than I have discovered features. Then I try them, realize it gets either complicated very fast (looking at you Obsidian, Notion, Anytype, etc) which might be a me problem, or it has small development team, small community and that makes it way to uncertain for me to pour over all my notes. The problem with many apps (like the ones above) is that they are the shiny new thing and from the outside look awesome and amazing. After trying Obsidian for 6 month it made me appreciate the simplicity of Evernote a lot more! Though it lacks rich text editing and requires markdown knowledge and even more scripting/coding knowledge if you want to take full advantage. Obsidian is a markdown, local storage and very fast note taking app. Notes can be placed in more then one Notebook (making it kinda like tags)īut it has a super small community, is a very new app, developped by 2 people and there is not much to find where their servers are located and who they are. Inline tags (which go in the tag library like Evernote) Though it does have a few nifty features that Evernote doesn't have that I really like! I like it a lot though, it's again a lot less feature rich then Evernote. Though it does have a roadmap and active discord.Īlso Upnote is really great and cheap (offering a lifetime offer for the price of half a year of Evernote). ![]() But it is just as expensive with a lot less features and the free plan is like a barebones demo (max 5 tags, 3 notebooks and no rich text editing). It claims to be a more privacy focussed and secure then Evernote. ![]() I find that Notesnook has potential as a clone of Evernote. There are some options, or plenty depending on your usecase and level of trust in the newer apps. I don't wanna learn markup to save a recipe. I'm just getting tired of all these recommendations for stuff that makes my life more difficult. The nearest I've found in functionality to Evernote is One Note - hardly an earth shattering discovery! and move on - like Evernote! I'm not denying that these other products are inferior but there must be a majority of users like myself want something simple to use. No time for that! Nimbus notes also recommended - I've spent some time playing with it and still can't attach a screenshot inline in the note body? I guess there's a geeky element out there that enjoy this kind of stuff, but my use-case test for a note app is that I can open it quickly, write a few lines, drop in a few links, screenshot, etc. My problem is that many of the alternatives being suggested are just not usable! Recently I've tried Joplin - was astounded to discover it didn't have a 'proper' editor - you have to enter any formatting in markup. feature requests for simple things such as being able to select the picture shown in a note preview - right click, select 'set preview ' maybe? - are continually ignored. Updates to the UI and a seeming lack of engagement with users is pushing me to seek an alternative e.g. Like many people on here (presumably) I've been a happy Evernote user for many years - probably over 10 yrs. ![]()
